Jockey Club Hostel E 簡介

 

嶺南大學共有10座宿舍，分別建於 南(A - D) 北(E - H) 兩側，及富泰商場旁邊(WHC, WJY)。

北宿共有四座賽馬會堂由香港賽馬會捐款興建。先後興建E F 和 G H ，Hall E於1997年正式入伙。

There are 10 student hostels in total at Lingnan University. Hostel A to Hostel D are usually called as the Southern Hostels while the Hostel E to Hostel H are the Northern Hostels, in reference to their respective location in the University.

There are 4 Jockey Club Hostel contributed by Jockey Club, Hostel E and Hostel F are first to be built then Hostel G and Hostel H. In 1997, Hostel E is accomplished.

北宿傳說...Hall E and F 位置

南宿(Hall A-D)係順次序的。大家有冇想過點解Hall E會比Hall F “入”?

據說在北宿建造時﹐其實現時的“Hall F”是“Hall E”﹐而“Hall E”則是“Hall F”。兩棟宿舍落成後，建築公司需要為宿舍掛上 “門牌”。兩棟宿舍的每一層、每一個房的門牌，都會分別印有“HE”及“HF”的字樣。Hall E的房印“HE”，Hall F的房印“HF”。由於建築公司錯誤地將兩棟宿舍的門牌掉轉了，加上如果要將兩棟宿舍重新掉回門牌，需要大量人力及物力。這樣，就“將錯就錯”Hall E 比Hall F更“入”。

Mystery (or Legend?) of the Northern Hostels - Locations of Hostel E & F

In Lingnan, the Southern Hostels (Hostel A to D) are located in line with the alphabetical order. However, have you ever wondered why the Northern Hostels are the other way round?

It is said that in the original design of the Northern Hostels, Hostel E should be in Hostel F's location while Hostel F in Hostel E's. When the construction completed, the building engineering company needed to mount a doorplate ("HE" for Hostel E and "HF" for Hostel F) for every room of every floor of both hostels. Nonetheless, the building company mixed up the locations of the two hostels and mistakenly mount the HE doorplates in Hostel F and HF doorplates in Hostel E. Since it would be too wasteful in time and resources in swapping back the doorplates, it is decided that the hostels would be kept in the current locations.
